NEW from Midea—modern chilled water systems. Performance, scalability, and energy efficiency

03 of June '26

Midea’s chilled water systems meet the growing demands of modern commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects, where energy efficiency, reliability, and design flexibility are of paramount importance. The manufacturer’s portfolio includes air-to-water heat pumps, high-capacity chillers, and oil-free centrifugal chillers utilizing magnetic bearing technology. Thanks to advanced solutions such as DC Inverter, EVI, and oil-free technology, Midea systems enable the construction of modern and scalable HVAC installations tailored to the needs of a wide variety of facilities.

Water-based systems are becoming an increasingly important component of modern HVAC installations

Water-based systems—including both air-to-water heat pumps and chillers—are playing an increasingly significant role in modern HVAC systems in commercial buildings. Their advantages include high design flexibility, the ability to centralize cooling and heating sources, and easy integration with building automation systems. Advances in inverter technology, EVI, and magnetic bearings have led to these types of solutions increasingly replacing traditional boiler rooms or systems based on individual chillers.

Aqua Thermal Super—heat pumps for demanding applications

Air-to-water heat pumps occupy a prominent place in Midea’s chilled water system portfolio. In large commercial facilities, they are expected to operate stably at low temperatures and deliver high heating water performance. Solutions such as Aqua Thermal Super meet these needs thanks to DC Inverter technology and EVI steam injection, which allow the system to maintain its output at an outdoor temperature of -25°C and achieve a water temperature of up to 65°C. The modular design allows the system to be adapted to a wide range of projects, from hotels to hospitals.

Aqua Thermal Max – High Capacity and Continuous Operation

The second group of solutions consists of high-capacity air-source units, which serve as both a cooling source and a heat pump in many facilities. Aqua Thermal Max systems can deliver up to 390 kW from a single unit, operating at temperatures as low as -30°C. Modularity, 32-step fan speed control, and advanced oil management contribute to the system’s durability and minimize downtime. A particularly important feature for logistics facilities and manufacturing plants is the ability to provide continuous heating even during the defrosting process, which helps prevent temperature drops in production halls and during technological processes.

MagBoost APEX PRO – magnetic bearing technology

Midea’s most advanced category of chilled water systems consists of the oil-free MagBoost APEX PRO centrifugal chillers. These units utilize magnetic bearing technology, ensuring high energy efficiency (SEER up to ~9), low noise levels, no risks associated with oil circulation, and a compressor lifespan of up to 30 years. Solutions of this class are used wherever uninterrupted, round-the-clock operation is required—in data centers, infrastructure buildings, and premium facilities. The ability to operate in a system comprising up to 16 units allows for the construction of installations with a capacity measured in multiple megawatts.

Design Flexibility and BMS Integration

A common feature of Midea’s ATS, ATM, and APEX PRO systems is their ability to operate across a wide range of temperatures, their modular design, and their easy integration with BMS systems. This allows designers and investors to combine different technologies within a single facility—using ATS as a heat source for heating systems, ATM as the main chiller, and APEX PRO as the most efficient solution for zones with the highest demand.

A Comprehensive Approach to HVAC Infrastructure

The combination of performance, scalability, and extensive configuration options makes Midea’s chilled water systems suitable for use in both service and commercial facilities, as well as in industrial installations and buildings with the most demanding technical requirements. They form a comprehensive platform for building modern and energy-efficient HVAC systems that meet the needs of contemporary construction.
